Harry Todd (birth name John Nelson Todd, born December 13, 1863 in Allegheny , Pennsylvania , † February 15, 1935 in Glendale , California ) was an American actor , known for comedies and westerns by and with Gilbert M. Anderson .

Life

Todd worked for Essanay from 1909 , mostly under the direction of Gilbert M. Anderson in comedies and westerns. In addition to Victor Potel , Augustus Carney (until his departure to Universal Studios ) and his future wife Margaret Joslin , he played the character Mustang Pete 76 times in the Snakeville Western comedies from 1911 to 1917 .

In the next few years he played supporting roles in films of all genres for various film companies, but mostly in B-Westerns. He has appeared in some of Harold Lloyd's Lonesome Luke films and under Hal Roach in the Toto films Armado Novellos . Directors who used Todd in the 1920s included John Ince , King Vidor , WS Van Dyke , John Ford , Michael Curtiz and Lionel Barrymore, and most notably Richard Thorpe and Edward Sedgwick . Little by little, Todd's roles became smaller and most of his films in the 1930s were uncredited.
