Oral hole of the Hartengrippenhagensberger tunnel

The Hartengrippenhagensberger Stollen , also known as Franzstollen , is a water dissolving tunnel in the Elbingerode district of the town of Oberharz am Brocken in the Harz region in Saxony-Anhalt . He loosened the waters of the Graefenhagensberger Pinge in the Elbingerode mining area. Its mouth hole, which can be walked on a few meters, is a station on the Elbingerode mining trail .

location

The tunnel is located on the Büchenberg in the northern Harz not far from the federal highway 244 , which connects Wernigerode with Elbingerode (Harz). The Weißkopfchaussee passes not far from the tunnel mouth hole.

history

The Elbingerode office , in which the Hartengrippenhagensberger tunnel is located, belonged to the Counts of Stolberg, who resided at Wernigerode Castle , until the 16th century . These lost the office, which was very profitable due to the abundant mining, to the Dukes of Braunschweig, whereby it fell to the Electorate of Hanover in the 18th century and belonged to the Prussian Province of Hanover from 1867 .

The tunnel was excavated between 1694 and 1709 . The year 1694 in the keystone at the tunnel mouth hole reminds us of this today. The water coming out of the tunnel was led through a ditch to the artificial bike located not far from the Weißkopfchaussee . Parts of the dry stone wall of the moat are still preserved today.

monument

The reconstructed mouth of the Hartengrippenhagensberger tunnel with keystone, mallet and iron and the year 1694 as well as the neighboring structural remains of the former wheel room of the Franz tunnel are registered as a monument under registration number 094 55843 in the list of cultural monuments in Upper Harz am Brocken .
