Hartman Witwer (also Hartmann) (* 1774 in Imst , Tyrol ; † July 9, 1825 in Lemberg ) was an Austrian sculptor who worked in Lemberg.

Life

He came from a family of builders and sculptors. His father Joseph Anton (1751–1794) and his younger brothers Jakob and Johann Michael (1775–1811) were also sculptors. Widower studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . He came to Lviv around 1800, probably with his brother Johann Michael. They founded a sculptor's workshop at 20 Lychakivska Street and were mainly concerned with the funerary sculptures at the Lychakiv Cemetery and the decoration of Lviv buildings. After the untimely death of his brother, Hartmann Witwer worked independently. In June 1818 he became a member of the Lviv bricklayer and stonemason guild. After 1820 he worked with Anton Schimser (1790–1836). He died as a result of a typhus epidemic.

Among his most important works are the four fountain figures at the corners of the Lviv market square (1810–1814). They represent mythological figures of the gods: Neptune , Diana, Amphitrite and Adonis.
