Hartmut Engels

Hartmut Engels (born May 15, 1942 in Rudolstadt / Thuringia ; † June 13, 2014 ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and from 1974 to 2011 a member of the Hamburg Parliament .

Life

Engels attended elementary school from 1948 and switched to grammar school in Hamburg-Rahlstedt in 1952 , which he left with the Abitur in 1961. He then studied physics and mathematics from 1961 to 1969 for a higher teaching post. He did his legal clerkship from 1970 to 1972 and worked as a teacher at the Oberalster grammar school from 1970 . He taught physics, mathematics and computer science first as a student councilor and later as a senior student councilor. In addition to his political commitment, he was a member of the German Teachers Association . Engels had been married since 1970 and the marriage had two children.

politics

Engels joined the CDU in 1965 and, in addition to many activities in the party, has been chairman of the state committee of the CDU Hamburg since 2002. Until April 2008 he was chairman of the CDU local association Hamburg-Oberalster .

From April 1974 to February 2011 he was a member of the Hamburg Parliament and thus the longest member of the Hamburg Parliament in the 19th electoral term. As a member of parliament , he was a member of the school, environmental and submissions committees. He was also the environmental policy spokesman for his group. In 1974 Engels was also elected to the Wandsbek district assembly , but resigned his mandate after a few weeks because of his membership of the citizenry.
