Hartmut Kühne (born July 21, 1943 in Berlin ) is a German archaeologist from the Middle East .

Life

Kühne attended high school in Bochum and Berlin and completed a stay at a high school in the USA in 1960/61. In 1963 he received his Abitur in Berlin and then studied until 1972 at the Free University of Berlin the subjects of Near Eastern Antiquities , Ancient Near Eastern Studies , Classical Archeology of Asia Minor , Iranian Studies and Ancient History . 1972 doctorate Kuehne to Dr. phil. with a dissertation on " The ceramics of Tell Chuera and their relationship to finds from Syria-Palestine, Turkey and Iraq ".

Kühne was then involved from 1972 to 1975 as a research assistant at Saarland University in the Tell Kāmid el-Lōz excavation under the direction of Rolf Hachmann . From 1975 to 1980 he was a research assistant for the creation of the " Tübingen Atlas of the Middle East " (TAVO) with Wolfgang Röllig . Since 1980 Hartmut Kühne has been Professor of Near Eastern Antiquities at the Free University of Berlin, where he was Vice Dean from 1999 to 2001 and Dean of the Department of History and Cultural Studies from 2001 to 2003 . In 2010 he retired and has been a visiting professor at the institute since then.

Bold's research interests include settlement archeology , historical geography , historical environmental research, monument studies and visual art, glyptics and research on ceramics and glass. In 1998 Kühne was awarded the Syrian Order of Merit, 1st class, for his achievements.
