Hartville is a village in Stark County , Ohio , United States . The population was 2,174 as of the 2000 census . Hartsville is part of the Canton - Massillon - metropolitan area . The community is halfway between Akron and Canton , at the intersection of two major highways, Ohio State Route 43 and Ohio State Route 619 . Hartville is adjacent to Uniontown .
Although Hartville is quite small, in recent years it has become a hub of trade and tourism in northeast Ohio. The antique shops, the large open-air market and the flea market on the market square of Hartville and last but not least the many restaurants contribute to this.

history
Hartville was founded as a Mennonite congregation in 1851 . It was part of a series of Mennonite and Amish settlements that formed in the Great Lakes area after another wave of expulsions from Europe in the 19th century . The work ethic that the founders of Hartville brought with them is believed to be the foundation of today's economic success.

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Hartville was inhabited by 2174 people. The population density was 458.7 people per km ². There were 902 housing units at an average of 190.3 per km ².
