Hartville is a village in Stark County , Ohio , United States . The population was 2,174 as of the 2000 census . Hartsville is part of the Canton - Massillon - metropolitan area . The community is halfway between Akron and Canton , at the intersection of two major highways, Ohio State Route 43 and Ohio State Route 619 . Hartville is adjacent to Uniontown .

Hartville was founded as a Mennonite congregation in 1851 . It was part of a series of Mennonite and Amish settlements that formed in the Great Lakes area after another wave of expulsions from Europe in the 19th century .
