Harun
Harun ( Arabic هارون, DMG Hārūn ) corresponds to the biblical Aaron (Hebrew Aharon). He is one of the prophets of Islam .
Harun is the older brother of the prophet Musa ( Moses ) and son of Imran. According to the Koran , Musa and Harun were sent by Allah ( God ) to the people of Israel to free them from the tyranny of Pharaoh. Musa says of his brother that he is a better speaker than him.
Verses 7 : 142.150 are important references for Harun in the Koran ; 20 : 30.71.90.92; 25 : 35; 26 : 48; 28 : 34 and 37 : 114.120. Further mentions are made in 2: 248; 4: 163; 6:84; 7:122; 10:75; 19: 28.54; 21:48 and 23:45.
His alleged tomb ( Qubba ) is on the top of a rocky mountain a few kilometers southwest of Petra in Jordan. Jebel Harun is a pilgrimage destination.
One of the most famous bearers of his name is the fifth Abbasid caliph Hārūn ar-Raschīd (around 763-809).
