Hassoumi Massoudou

Hassoumi Massoudou (* 22. October 1957 in birni n'gaouré ; also Hassoumi Masaoudou and Hassoumi Massaoudou ) is a Nigerien politician .

Life

Hassoumi Massoudou attended the Lycée Issa Korombé in Niamey , from which he graduated with a baccalaureate . He became an engineer in geology at the Civil Engineering College in Yamoussoukro and a master's degree in geostatistics at the École nationale supérieure des mines de Paris . From 1982 to 1993 he worked for the mining company Compagnie Minière d'Akouta on the development of uranium deposits in Niger.

Massoudou was politically active in the Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism (PNDS-Tarayya), whose secretary for communications he was from 1991 to 1995. When the party became part of the government in 1993, Massoudou took over the post of Minister for Communication, Culture, Youth and Sport, which he held until 1994. In 1995 he was Deputy General Secretary of PNDS-Tarayya.

When Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara came to power in a military coup in 1996 , Hassoumi Massoudou, who is an excellent speaker, was one of his most outspoken opponents. Massoudou was arrested and tortured by mock executions . He was released without charge. He worked as an independent advisor during Baré Maïnassara's rule, which lasted until 1999. After the death of the head of state, he was a member of the transitional parliament and was involved in drafting the new Niger constitution that was adopted in the 1999 referendum . He was elected to the National Assembly in the 1999 parliamentary elections, of which he was a member until 2004. There Massoudou worked as chairman of the parliamentary group of the PNDS-Tarayya and as a member of the finance committee. He was also a member of the Pan-African Parliament .

From 2005 he worked again as an independent consultant. He was also Vice President of the State Economic, Social and Cultural Council. Massoudou took on the role of campaign leader of the PNDS-Tarayya for the parliamentary and presidential elections of 2011 , which ended with victories for his party and its presidential candidate Mahamadou Issoufou . He then worked for President Issoufou as his head of cabinet at ministerial level. From 2013 to 2016 Hassoumi Massoudou was Minister of the Interior, Public Security, Decentralization, Customs and Religious Affairs . Since 2014 he has also been General Secretary of PNDS-Tarayya. In 2016 he was Minister of Defense for about half a year and became Minister of Finance that same year . He was dismissed from the government in 2019 after he announced his intention to run in the 2021 presidential election without informing PNDS Tarayya chairman Mohamed Bazoum of the move.

Hassoumi Massoudou is married and has four children.
