The Haube is Altenfeld's local mountain and is located in the southeastern part of the Thuringian Forest at the interface with the Thuringian Slate Mountains in the southern Ilm district .

On the hood there is a biotope that serves as a habitat for many reptile species , such as the adder .

The main peak of the hood, the rear hood and its side peak , the front lid form the highest points of between Neustadt am Rennsteig and Kahlert north-east from the comb branching of the Thuringian Forest ridge :

- Secondary peak: Front hood 789.8 m above sea level NHN
Observation tower
On the secondary summit is a wooden observation tower with a refuge, which was built in 2002 by the Altenfeld eV Heimat- und Wanderverein eV.
Hiking routes
Circular hiking trail from Altenfeld via the Haubeweg to the Hauberingweg and the Haubegipfelweg to the summit of the Hinteren Haube and then to the rock massif on the Vorderen Haube into the Reischeltal and back to Altenfeld.
