Hauke ​​Brunkhorst (born October 24, 1945 in Marne , Holstein ) is a German educational scientist and sociologist .

Life

Hauke ​​Brunkhorst spent his school days in Flensburg , where he graduated from high school in 1965 . From 1967 he studied German literature , philosophy , education and sociology in Kiel , Freiburg and Frankfurt . In 1974 he completed his studies with a diploma in education. He then carried out research at the Universities of Frankfurt, Göttingen and Konstanz for his doctorate in sociology, which he completed in 1978 with a work on practical relevance and theory building in Frankfurt. In 1982 he qualified as a professor in educational sciences and in 1985 in sociology at the University of Frankfurt. From 1979 to 1994 he held several visiting professorships and professorships : in Kassel (sociology), Osnabrück (sociology), Mainz (educational science), Berlin (political theory), Duisburg (political theory) and Frankfurt (sociology, philosophy); as well as outside Germany in Vienna (1985 and 2002), Aarhus (1998) and Aberystwyth (2007). Since 1996 Brunkhorst has been teaching sociology as a professor at the Europa-Universität Flensburg , where he also worked as director of the Institute for Sociology and as director of studies at the "International Institute of Management".

From 1995 to 1997 he was a Fellow at the Institute for Cultural Studies in Essen , and in 2005 he became a Research Fellow at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme in Paris. In particular, he deals with questions of political theory and practice and stands in the tradition of " critical theory " of the Frankfurt School .
