Châteaudun (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Châteaudun is a French noble family.

history

She appears as Vicomtes de Châteaudun for the first time at the end of the 10th century. In 1058 the family inherited County Mortagne , which was later renamed County Perche .

After an inheritance division at the beginning of the 12th century, the older line of the Counts of Perche died out in 1226, the middle line of the Vice Counts of Châteaudun died out half a century later. With the extinction of the youngest line, the line of the lords of Montfort-le-Rotrou in 1291, the entire Châteaudun family died out.

The most famous family members are Count Rotrou I von Perche, the son-in-law of the English King Henry II and Count Geoffroy III. von Perche, the son-in-law of Henry the Lion .
