Haus Erdmann in Hanover refers to a property in the valley of the Leine in the Hanover district of Döhren . The property , built in 1975–1976, includes several house numbers at the address Wiehegrund 5–7 and was named after the men's outfitter Erdmann clothing last run by Georg Erdmann.

History and description of the building

The Erdmann house was built between 1975 and 1977 according to plans by the architectural associationBahlo - Köhnke - Stosberg & Partner” and embedded in a plot of land “in a scenic location in the valley of the Leine”. While the house is rather repellent towards the street front, the building with a living space of 560 m² opens up to the garden area in the south. In its center there is a spacious residential wing including a small square inner courtyard. This is bordered to the south by an indoor swimming pool and by the two-story sleeping wing.

A characteristic of the building is formed by the protruding flat roof. In addition, Haus Erdmann is characterized by “a functional allocation of the individual structures as well as a strong spatial differentiation:“ The structures record the slope of the property to the south, trace it through steps, different ceiling heights and level jumps of the individual floors. The restrained character of the building is expressed in a base made of exposed concrete , a wooden structure visible from the inside and cladding made of light gray glazed boards.

The work by Hermann Boockhoff and Jürgen Knotz, published by Architekturverlag Callwey: Architecture in Hanover since 1900, pays tribute to Haus Erdmann with a photo, floor plan and description, which says about the architecture, among other things: “Strong spatial differentiation through division into individual buildings with different ceiling heights and level jumps in the floor. "

For Expo 2000 the house Erdmann was named one since the Age of the Baroque in Hannover built "361 structures [n] of all genres and periods" in which the Berlin Dietrich Reimer Verlag published Architekturführer Hannover described.
