House of Flowers
The House of Flowers ( Bosnian and Croatian Kuća Cvijeca , Serbian Kuća cveća Кућа цвећа , Slovenian Hiša cvetja , Macedonian Куќа на цвеќето ) is the mausoleum of the former President of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia , Josip Broz Tito , who on May 4, 1980 in Ljubljana passed away. The mausoleum is located in the Belgrade district of Dedinje. Today it belongs to the complex of the Museum of the History of Yugoslavia ( Serbian Музеј историје Југославије Muzej istorije Jugoslavije ).
history
The House of Flowers , built in 1975, was originally intended as a new Belgrade residence for Tito, alongside the preferred ones in Bled ( Slovenia ) and Brijuni ( Croatia ), as well as other villas in the former Yugoslavia. During the Kosovo war in 1999, the building was slightly damaged by a NATO bomb, and after the fall of Slobodan Milošević , it was extensively renovated.
Every year the mausoleum is visited by up to 20,000 people, mainly from the former Yugoslavia ( Slovenia , Croatia , Bosnia-Herzegovina , Montenegro , North Macedonia , Kosovo and Serbia ), as well as tourists from the former allies - the non-aligned countries . Most visitors come on May 4th, the anniversary of Tito's death.
