House to the pleasure garden

The Haus zum Lustgarten is a listed building in Rheinfelden in the canton of Aargau . It is located in the west of the old town on Bahnhofstrasse, near the city church of St. Martin . The core of the baroque building dates back to the 16th century.

history

The house at the pleasure garden probably got its present appearance around the middle of the 16th century. In 1678 it had to be repaired after French artillery fire during the Dutch War ; the roof structure was completely renewed. Franz Anton Fetzer, land clerk of the Rheinfelden cameramen , acquired the property in 1759. His son, Government Councilor Johann Karl Fetzer , commissioned various interior fittings in 1838, which doubled the value of the building. In accordance with the taste of the time, the exterior was freshened up with window crowns in 1894. In 1992/93 a total renovation took place in which the two upper floors and the roof structure were converted into apartments.

Building

The Haus zum Lustgarten is a three-storey, slim-proportioned plastered building with a hipped gable roof . Facing the Bahnhofstrasse, it has a representative display facade with five axes . The central axis is accentuated by a flight of stairs and a baroque portal with finely tiered, rectangular walls from around 1700. The slender stone-framed windows with angular cornices and subsequently attached crowns date from the early 19th century. Towards the confluent Tempelgasse there is only one window axis on the front, while a polygonal-clad stair tower with a hipped roof dominates the rear garden facade. The rising windows of the tower are adorned with volute- shaped fillet profiles.

The floor plan of the building is trapezoidal; Under the southern part, across the roof ridge , there is a vaulted cellar . Inside, the spiral staircase made of red sandstone , which is manufactured in a quality that is unique for Rheinfelden, is particularly remarkable . Baroque panels with profiled oak frames have been preserved on the ground floor and the first floor, while the living rooms on both upper floors have cross-belt floors and stucco ceilings . The light blue box oven in the middle room on the second floor, built around 1830/40, is the work of Johann Jakob Andres, whose frieze tiles were painted by Johann Heinrich Egli .
