Hauts-Bassins is one of 13 regions into which the West African state of Burkina Faso is administratively divided. The capital is Bobo-Dioulasso . The region to the west includes the provinces of Houet , Kénédougou and Tuy . 1,173,513 inhabitants live on an area of ​​26,606 km² (January 2006). The governor of the region created in 2001 is Bêbrigda Ouédraogo. The Black Volta (Mouhoun) has its source in the Hauts Basins. Due to the more humid climate, there is more lush vegetation than in the rest of the country. Hauts-Bassins is clearly industrialized in comparison to the other regions; there are metal processing plants, food and textile industries. Bobo-Dioulasso with the Semaine nationale de la culture festival is of particular tourist importance .
