Hazel Rosenstrauch (born May 13, 1945 in London ) is an Austrian cultural scientist , writer and journalist .

Life

Hazel Rosenstrauch's parents fled after Austria was annexed, and their grandparents became victims of the Holocaust . The parents married in Great Britain and returned after the war with their two daughters, Liesl and Hazel, who received British citizenship. Hazel Rosenstrauch grew up in Vienna in 1946, where she passed her Matura. From 1965 she studied German, philosophy and sociology at the Free University in Berlin and empirical cultural studies at the University of Tübingen . There she received her doctorate in 1983 with a dissertation on the bookseller and publisher Philipp Erasmus Reich , supervised by Hermann Bausinger .

From 1982 to 1987 she worked as an assistant at the Sociological Institute of the Free University of Berlin. In 1989 she was editor of the cultural journal Wiener Tagebuch and from 1992 to 1994 she was a research assistant at the Institute for Socio-Economics of the Austrian Academy of Sciences . For the magazine Gegenworte. She was editorially responsible for the dispute on knowledge , published by the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities from 1997 to 2005.

Rosenstrauch has also been working as a freelance journalist and writer since 1967. She has published numerous essays, including a. in Aesthetics & Communication , Concrete , Kursbuch , Literaturmagazin , Neue Gesellschaft / Frankfurter Hefte , Merkur and Universitas .

The thematic focus of her journalistic work is the relationship between science and the public, the Jewish-German relationship and cultural upheavals around 1800.

Hazel Rosenstrauch has a son and lives in Berlin.
