Didim is a city in the Ilçe (district) of the same name in the Turkish province of Aydın and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Aydın (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 2012 . It is located on the Turkish Aegean coast , about 200 km south of İzmir .

history

Temple of Apollo in Didim

In ancient times , the city of Didyma was located here with an important oracle sanctuary of the god Apollo. The Temple of Apollo is one of the best preserved large buildings of antiquity.

The current city of Didim was founded after the earthquake of 1955. The name of the ancient Didyma was adopted.

economy

Altınkum Beach

Didim is a rapidly growing tourist destination . The tourist infrastructure is particularly concentrated around the main beach in the Altınkum district . Other places frequented by tourists are Mavişehir , Akbük and Yeşilkent .

Didim has had a marina since August 2009. The D-Marin has 580 sea and 600 land berths as well as 70,000 m² of land for various buildings and workshops. There is also a 400-ton and a 75-ton travel lift available there.

The two 380 m high transmission masts of the Bafa long-wave transmitter are located near Didim .

Localities

Since a regional reform in 2014, the Ilçe (district) is identical in area and population to the district town, the eight former villages and three municipalities (status at the end of 2012: Didim , Akbük and Ak-Yenİköy ) of the district became mahalla (districts) of the city.
