Germencik is a city in the Ilçe (district) of the same name in the Turkish province of Aydın and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Aydın (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 2012 . the place lies in the middle of the fertile plain of the Büyük Menderes ( Great Meander ). The motorway from Izmir to Aydın ( E 87 ) and various railway lines run through the city. The place was previously called Değirmencik and was raised to a municipality (Belediye) in 1914 (according to the city logo).
The remains of the ancient city of Magnesia am Meander are on the outskirts of Germencik.
Germencik is one of the areas with the most productive fig harvests in Turkey. Olive farmers and olive oil refineries are also numerous here. A large part of the harvest, including cotton, quinces, grapes and pomegranates, is exported.
The currently largest geothermal power plant in Turkey with an output of 47.4 MW is located in Germencik .
Since a regional reform in 2014, the Ilçe (district) is identical in terms of area and population to the district town, all 31 former villages ( Köy ) and the three municipalities (status at the end of 2012: Hidirbeylİ , Mursalli and Ortaklar ) of the district became Mahalla (districts) of the city .
