Hede von Trapp
Hede von Trapp (born November 18, 1877 in Pula , Istria , † December 29, 1947 in Korneuburg , Lower Austria ) was an Austrian poet, painter and graphic artist of Art Nouveau .
Life
Hede von Trapp was the daughter of the frigate captain August von Trapp , who was knighted in Austria in 1876. Her younger brother was the submarine commander Georg Ludwig von Trapp (1880-1947), the father of the "singing Trapp family". The mother came from a family of sculptors and painters. From Hede von Trapp's early divorce with the engineer Robert Lutz, a former sea cadet and friend of her brother Georg Ludwig, the children Georg, Herta and Hanna emerged.
Most of the artistic work of Hede von Trapps consists of literary works. At first she worked exclusively as an author and poet. Her graphic oeuvre is mostly closely related to her literature. Often women characters who fight against social conventions play a central role.
As a graphic designer, she is considered self-taught. It was only after a short study in the master class of the Berlin painter Erich Ludwig Stahl (1887- ??) that she began to illustrate her books herself from 1909 . In July 1911 she had an exhibition with 70 pen drawings and etchings in the Miethke Gallery in Vienna . In 1914 she took part in the international exhibition in the Kunsthalle Bremen from February 1st to March 31st . The artist donated some of her works to the Berlin Art Library.
She lived and worked in Korneuburg , Lower Austria , where Hede-von-Trapp-Strasse is named after her today.
