Hedan (or Heden) II. (Also named Hetan , Haetan or Ętan ; † between 717 and 719 ) was at the beginning of the 8th century Duke of the renewed Thuringian tribal duchy until his death around 719. He was a son of Duke Gosbert , under which Saint Kilian died and the grandson of Hedan I.

The "Hetanide" Hedan was Franke and was based in Würzburg . He ruled from 689 at the earliest, apparently only in Main Franconia at first, and later ousted the Radulf dynasty in order to unite the Würzburg duchy with the old Thuringian. Around 700 he built a ducal palace with a church in Fulda .

Hedan is especially important because under his rule the missionary work of the Thuringians began by Bonifatius , who also founded the diocese of Erfurt in 742 . A deed of gift from the Duke dated May 1, 704 to Bishop Willibrord , issued in Würzburg, names the first place names of Würzburg Castellum Virteburh and place names in today's Thuringia : Arnstadt ( Arnestati ), Mühlberg ( Mulenberge ) and Großmonra ( Monhore ).

Hedan had a wife named Theodrada, a supposed daughter of Theotbald (a co-ruler of Hedan). She was probably of Franconian or Thuringian origin. With her he had a son named Thuring.

Hedan's son Thuring died in the battle of Vincy in 717. Heden died around 719, the duchy was dissolved by the Carolingians (at that time still Merovingian house masters ).
