Hedwig Grimm

Hedwig "Hedi" Grimm (born February 20, 1910 in Frankfurt am Main as Hedwig Staubesand ; † September 8, 2003 in Kassel ) was a German agricultural engineer and rose expert . She was co-founder and long-time chairwoman of the association "Roseninsel Park Wilhelmshöhe".

Life

Hedi Grimm studied agriculture in Göttingen . In 1938 she married her husband Wernt Grimm . The marriage has four children.

Inspired by her husband's research on the Rosarium in Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe , she founded the Kassel Circle of Friends of the Association of German Rose Friends in 1976 and then together with her husband in 1977 the association "Roseninsel Park Wilhelmshöhe", which is concerned with the revival of the 1766 on the Roseninsel below the Rosarium founded by Wilhelmshöhe Castle . Under the leadership of the Grimm couple, the association not only tended the existing roses, some of which were over 200 years old, but also planted new rose varieties that corresponded to the plans of the landscape park. The rose island became an attraction for rose lovers at the Federal Garden Show in Kassel in 1981.

Hedi Grimm died on September 8, 2003 in Kassel.

Honors

Together with her husband she received the Kassel City Medal in 1981 and the Letter of Honor from the State of Hesse in 1997 . She was also awarded the Paul Dierichs Prize . In 1990 she was the first woman to be awarded the Steinfurther Rosenring .

The rose breeder Louis Lens named a rose variety after her in 2002.
