Hegibach and Hegibachplatz on the Müllerplan from (1794)

The Zurich Hegibach is now a largely tunneled stream that flows in the city of Zurich in the Hirslanden district .

Where the water of the Hegibach finds its way today is well hidden over long stretches. The earlier water course can only be recognized to some extent by the street names: The Hegibach gave its name to the Hegibachplatz and the Hegibachstrasse . Below the Klusplatz, the stream was a little south of the Hegibachstrasse.

The stream comes from the Hegibachklus between Dolder and Degenried and disappears into the underworld at the edge of the forest, at the height of the property Hegibachstrasse 149 above Klusplatz . It then flows freely a short distance behind the houses at Hegibachstrasse. 128/130. Then it finally overturned, only to come back to the daylight further down at the confluence with the Hornbach - which, however, is still called Wildbach here. The Hornbach, which is integrated in a concrete canal, flows into Lake Zurich a little further in the park between the Tiefenbrunnen outdoor pool and the Zürichhorn on the right bank .

Every year, the protected fire salamanders lay their larvae in the lowest free part of the brook, which grow into adult animals, provided the brook has enough water by mid-July. Most of the sources in the Hegibach are used by Zurich's water supply.

The Degenbach, which was still open and free flowing in 1799, had to be crossed by the Austrians in the First Battle of Zurich .
