Heide Froning-Kehler

Heide Froning-Kehler (born October 12, 1943 in Schweinfurt ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Heide Froning-Kehler received her doctorate in 1970 with the work Dithyrambos and Vase Painting in Athens at the University of Würzburg under Erika Simon . In 1972/73 she was the holder of a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . After returning to Germany, she became a research assistant in Würzburg. The habilitation took place in 1979, the subject of the work was marble ornamental reliefs with Greek myths in the 1st century BC. Chr. Study of chronology and function . With her habilitation, Froning was made a private lecturer , from 1980 to 1985 she was also an academic councilor , since 1985 academic senior counselor and an adjunct professor. In 1987/88 she took the chair in Würzburg and in 1990 she took the chair at Kiel University . From 1991 to 2009 she taught as a professor of classical archeology at the University of Marburg .

Froning-Kehler is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute and a member of the Marburg learned society . She deals with ancient sculpture, the archeology of Greek theater and cultural anthropology . In particular, however, she excelled as a specialist in ancient ceramics. For example, she edited a catalog of Greek and Italian vases in the Folkwang Museum in Essen . She worked on the terracottas from Elis and the late classical and Hellenistic ceramics from Pydna . From 1994 to 1995 she was the dean of Faculty 07 and has been a member of the Senate of the University of Marburg since 2004. From 2000 to 2004 Froning-Kehler was also an expert reviewer for the German Research Foundation .
