The Heidenburg , more rarely also called Heidenschlösschen or Heidenschloss , is the ruin of a ring wall on the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest ( Rhineland-Palatinate ).

Geographical location

The Heidenburg is located southwest of Gimmeldingen , a district of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse , on the right above the valley of the Mußbach at 316  m above sea level. NHN Höhe on the eastern spur of the Nebelberg , which is also called Nöpelberg in literature and is the eastern runner of the 554  m high wine region . The system consisted of an oval ring wall, which has a circumference of 310 m and extends 140 m in west-east and 50 m in north-south direction. Its area, which rises to the west, is about 5700 m². A roughly square residential tower was built inside . Only a few remnants and traces of terrain are visible of this and the ring wall itself, remnants of other dwellings can only be guessed at. At the western gate of the facility, 323  m high towards the Weinbiet summit, half a meter high dry stone remains of a "gate lane" and foundation stones of the gate can still be seen. Since the Gimmeldinger quarry was later operated in the immediate vicinity, parts of the ring wall were also "dismantled" in the past.
