Heiko Hammel (born July 17, 1988 in Schwäbisch Hall ) is a German racing car driver who lives in Wohlmuthausen .

Career

Karting

In 1996 Heiko Hammel became German AvD champion in kart slalom. From 1998 he drove on kart circuits and from 2000 in the Ic / A Juniors. In the Württemberg and German championships he finished in the top three. In 2003, Hammel competed in the IcA 100 class for the German ADAC Kart Cup.

Touring Cars & GT Sport

First Hammel drove for three years (2004-2006) in the Toyota Yaris Cup . In 2006 he was the winner of the junior ranking and second in the overall ranking.

From 2007 to 2009 Hammel drove in the Seat Leon Supercopa , where there were also victories to celebrate. Hammel then became a member of the Deutsche Post Speed ​​Academy , where he finished third overall behind Daniel Abt and Christopher Mies in the first year .

In 2010 and 2011 , Hammel competed in the ADAC GT Masters with an Audi R8 LMS and a Dodge Viper GT3. Together with Jimmy Johansson , he finished second in Assen , which was his best result in the series.

Hammel is currently active in several smaller racing series. These include the VLN races since 2012 , the Youngtimer Trophy races since 2013 and the ADAC Procar (DTC) races since 2014 , where he became champion in 2014 and runner-up in 2015 . In the VLN, Hammel drives for Hyundai Germany and took part in the 24-hour race.

In 2016 Hammel led the DTC championship until the last race in Spa-Francorchamps and was only just barely beaten by Milenko Vukovic. At the 24-hour Classic on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, he led the field of over 200 young timers in pouring rain. An engine failure prevented victory.

In 2017, Hammel was able to contest the VLN endurance championship and the 24-hour race with a Renault RS01 GT3. With several class wins, an overall podium and a lap time of 8:02 minutes on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (VLN variant), he is one of the fastest drivers on the Nordschleife.
