The Catholic Heilig-Geist-Kirche in Düsseldorf-Pempelfort is one of the nine churches designed by the architect Josef Kleesattel in the city of Düsseldorf .

history

As with most of his churches, the architect Kleesattel chose the neo-Romanesque style , based on late Romanesque basilicas. The Roman basilica of St. Neuseus and St. Achilles served as a direct model .

Nevertheless, Heilig-Geist has architectural features: The church is designed with four aisles. The chancel above the crypt is higher than the Romanesque architecture. Three different types of columns were also used.

The Holy Spirit Church was built in 1911 and consecrated in 1913.

During the Second World War, the church suffered considerable damage. The architect Heinz Thoma had the church rebuilt with some simplifications in the interior.

In 1980 Heilig Geist was extensively renovated. In 1998 the church received new windows based on designs by the artist Karl-Martin Hartmann .

organ

The organ was built in 1967 by the organ builder Johannes Klais (Bonn). The slider chests -instrument has 34 registers on three manuals and pedal . The game actions are mechanical, the stop actions are electric.
