Holy Cross Chapel (Menden)
The Catholic Heilig-Kreuz-Kapelle, also called St.-Antonius-von-Padua-Kapelle , is a listed church building on the Rodenberg in Menden (Sauerland) in the Märkischen Kreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The chapel is the destination of the Way of the Cross on the Rodenberg . From the previous building from 1685 to 1688, the retracted east choir with a 3/8 end has been preserved; from 1711 to 1715 it was extended to today's post-Gothic hall with a west 3/8 end. The plastered solid construction is structured by buttresses , a roof turret was added to the building . The building is accessed via open stairs through three portals . The designation 1712 can be seen in the lintels . Above the west portal is a statue from 1895, it represents St. Anthony of Padua . The hall is divided by high arched windows and the choir by pointed arched windows. Groin vaults were drawn into the interior. A renovation was carried out from 1977 to 1978. The versions were restored according to the findings.
Furnishing
- The three baroque altars are adorned with twisted columns. The high altar with blown volute gable is crowned with a cross with wounds . The side altars from 1736 show as niche figures on the left, Christ on the scourge column and on the right Ecce homo .
- Since 1978 there has been a representation of Christ resting in the niche .
- In the stipes , Christ can be seen in the grave.
- In wall niches in the hall and in the choir there are sculptures from the 18th century.
- The chairs with carved cheeks come from different construction phases.
- The bell rings in f "and was cast in 1911.
