geography

The local history museum Bobenheim-Roxheim is located in the old town center of Roxheim near the market square. The Rhine near location of the municipality Bobenheim-Roxheim has shaped the lives of the people there in a very special way: Despite the devastating flood damage that brought many people to all their belongings that remained old Rhine area with its rich flora and fauna always an attractive Settlement area .

Exhibition offer

Since 1983 the museum has presented the collections of the Association for Nature Conservation and Homeland Care Bobenheim-Roxheim eV

Newly added:

  • Worms Terra Sigillata GmbH : The operations manager of the ceramic works Offstein and Worms AG Jean Kling (1878–1946) was so fascinated by the Roman terra sigillata that he tried years of experimentation to produce a similar ceramic. In September 1937, he finally registered a patent for a process for the production of pottery with a velvety sheen that looks like terra sigillata. In 1949, the Terra Sigillata factory in the city of Worms started production. The production program initially comprised decorative ceramic objects and ceramics based on Roman models. Utility ceramics were added later and the range of decorative ceramics was expanded to include wall plates, wall masks and figurative objects. The production of Terra Sigillata was discontinued in the 1980s due to a lack of demand.

Craft trades

Craft trades such as basket makers or cane mat manufacturers made use of natural raw materials such as willow or reed from the wetlands of the lowlands. The reeds were cut, stored in round balls and dried until they were made into mats with string and weights. The finished mats were then used as building material in houses, plastered with clay, to insulate the walls. Therefore, the museum of local history has taken on the ecological and aesthetic landscape appreciation of the natural living conditions of plants and animals.

natural reserve

Nature conservation and inventory of native fauna and flora is the focus of the natural history department with its many animal and plant preparations. Based on archaeological finds, the spectrum goes back to the prehistory and early history of the area. The way in which people benefited from the Old Rhine area is conveyed not least in the Department of Culture , Customs and Crafts.
