Hein Timm (born November 12, 1908 in Hamburg , † May 19, 1985 in Norderstedt ) was a German folk singer , writer , songwriter and composer .

Life

Hein (rich) Timm was the son of a grain dealer in the Hamburg district of Eppendorf . After attending the Bismarck secondary school, Timm completed a commercial apprenticeship and worked in his father's company. With the goal of becoming an opera singer, he began to study music at the Krüß-Färber Conservatory in 1932 and received singing lessons from Carl Günther until 1940 . As early as 1934 he was engaged at the Kiel Theater. In 1940 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and served on a marine search boat. After he had founded the "Timmists" with other musicians , Timm was awarded a certificate of honor "For services in the field of military support" in October 1943 .

After the war , Hein Timm appeared exclusively as a folk singer and made guest appearances in Hamburg vaudeville shows that were popular at the time, such as the Allotria , Haus Vaterland or Dreyers Ahoi , but also in Rhyn's Hafenkneipe in Zurich, where in 1951, in addition to numerous radio broadcasts, the first recordings were made, followed by further recordings in 1952 followed in Hamburg. Timm had appearances on cruise ships, on the radio and on television, here in particular in programs like The current Schaubude or Haifischbar . At the end of the 1960s he made a guest appearance in what was then the GDR . In addition, Timm advertised various products such as Nivea , Badedas or Stonsdorfer and, not least because of his stoutness, appeared as a cook at advertising events. He also wrote and composed around 300 chansons, mood and Low German folk songs, including the theme tune for the ARD entertainment program Haifischbar , and published books with stories and a dictionary of High German- Low German .

In May 1942, after a twelve-year engagement period, Hein Timm married his childhood sweetheart Lotte Perle, with whom he had two children. At a public appearance in 1953 he met Gunda Schubert, with whom he moved to Henstedt-Rhen in 1961 . Under her stage name Gundi Hein , Gunda Schubert often appeared on stage with her partner and sang records with him. On his 75th birthday, the community honored the singer by renaming the Quellenweg at the Alsterquelle in Hein-Timm-Weg .

On May 19, 1985, Hein Timm suffered a heart attack while performing in the Norderstedter Festsaal am Falkenberg and died immediately afterwards. The funeral service took place on May 28, 1985 in Hamburg's St. Michaeliskirche . Hein Timm found his final resting place in the Hamburg cemetery in Ohlsdorf near grid square D 20 (south of Chapel 3).
