The Heinrich von Kleist Realschule is a Realschule in Böckingen . The school was established in the 1960s when the Heilbronn middle schools were reorganized as Realschule West and in 1968 it was initially housed in the Heilbronn cigar factory . In 1971 the school moved into a new building at Kastanienweg 17 in the Böckingen residential area Kreuzgrund , whereupon the school was named after the "Käthchen poet" Heinrich von Kleist . The school is the only school in Kreuzgrund and has been extensively modernized inside and out since 2002.
The school mentioned in the newspaper Die Zeit in 2007 was awarded “BoriS - Berufswahl-SIEGEL Baden-Württemberg” on June 16, 2008. Because of its facade design, a Hugo Häring award took place in July 2011 and was therefore also on competitionline. Competitions and architecture are also listed on WA competitions current. The trade journal for architectural competitions .
history
Realschule West
In order to enable a differentiated education between the elementary school (Hauptschule) and the grammar school , middle schools and upper secondary schools were founded in Heilbronn as well as elsewhere in the 19th century . In 1827, real classes were set up for the first time at the Karlsgymnasium , which later became an upper secondary school, which was later detached from the grammar school and was given new rooms on Bismarckstraße (today's Robert-Mayer-Gymnasium ) in 1889 . In 1906 the lower six classes were transferred to the Dammschule in Dammstrasse, which became the boys' middle school in 1924. In 1877, a girls' middle school had already been founded on Schillerstrasse, from which today's Mörike secondary school emerged . After the Second World War their inherited school division and separation by gender was retained in essence in the dam school the boys middle school continued to be accommodated, while there was the old Girls' Middle School at the Schiller Street for girls to the 1962 nor the Helene-Lange-girls middle school in came the west street. In 1963 a private evening secondary school was also set up. At that time, almost 2,600 pupils were being taught at the Heilbronn secondary schools, so that the establishment of a new secondary school saw the possibility of relieving the existing secondary schools.
In 1964 four classes were moved from the boys' middle school to the Rosenau school . In addition, there were girls' classes from the Mörike-Mädchen-Realschule and the Helene-Lange-Mädchen-Realschule. The Realschule West emerged from these classes and was the first Heilbronn school to be open to both boys and girls.
In December 1968 the Realschule West was housed in its own building, namely in the former Kahn cigar factory in the Achtungstraße in the neighborhood of the Helene-Lange-Realschule. The students were referred to as the factory and barrack students . There were major spatial deficiencies there. The Achtungsstraße had to be closed during break times because it became a school or playground. A complaint was made that most of the classrooms were nicely painted, but that electric lights had to be on all day long, which caused the temperature in the classroom to rise to 31 degrees with an outside temperature of 24 degrees. Soon there were plans for a new school building in the Kreuzgrund settlement outside of Heilbronn city center on Böckinger Markung . The planned start of construction in April 1970 was announced in July 1969.
Heinrich von Kleist Secondary School since 1971
The plans for the new school building go back to the head of the Heilbronn Building Department, Friedrich Otzmann, with the qualified engineers Drechsler and Werner, as well as the chief administrator Mayer. The Böckingen statics office Professor Ritter and the specialist engineers Hohl and Schweizer were also involved in the planning. The first groundbreaking for the Realschule West took place on April 27, 1970. On July 16, 1970, the Heilbronn municipal council approved the cost estimate and awarded the construction contract to the Böpple company. The construction engineer from the Böpple company, Helmut Hannemann, was in charge of construction. The contract included the execution of the school, break hall, forum and caretaker's apartment for a construction cost of 6.3 million marks. A total of around 11 million marks went into the new school building. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on February 26, 1971. On September 14, 1971, the pupils of Realschule West were able to move into the new building in Kreuzgrund.
The official inauguration of the school took place on December 21, 1971, when the Heilbronn municipal council decided to name the new building of this largest and most beautiful Heilbronn secondary school after the Käthchen poet Heinrich von Kleist . In 1971, 894 students in 25 classes attended Heinrich-von-Kleist-Realschule.
On the ground floor of the school, a library with a stock of around 5000 books was set up in the spring of 1972 as a joint project between the Heilbronn city library and the school . This was the first spatial and existing combination of a student and public library in the Heilbronn district. The need for the establishment of a public library as well as other other public uses of the school such as The reason, for example , due to the adult education center , was that the large and nearby Böckingen residential areas Längelter and Schanz were built around the same time as the new building, which exceeded the Böckingen town center in terms of area. On the Schanz , the school center on Kraichgauplatz, which was built around the same time as the Realschule, supplemented the range of schools in the vicinity with a primary and secondary school and the Elly-Heuss-Knapp-Gymnasium . The merger of the Heinrich-von-Kleist-Realschule and the schools at Kraichgauplatz to form a joint institution was temporarily under discussion.
The highest number of pupils at the Heinrich-von-Kleist-Realschule was reached in the school year 1980/81, when 1,081 pupils in 35 classes attended the school. In the 1980s there was a strong and sustained decline in the number of pupils in the entire school system, so that in the 1997/98 school year only 682 pupils in 26 classes attended school. Only after the turn of the millennium did the number of pupils rise again. In the school year 2006/2007 there were 780 students, in the following school year 2007/2008 there were 800 students at the Realschule. In 2018 there were 720 students who were taught by 53 teachers.
In 2002 the interior of the school, which is over 30 years old, was modernized according to plans by the Heilbronn architects' office Müller according to the latest technical and energetic aspects. However, it did not stop at the interior modernization. In 2008/2009, the facade of the building was also renewed according to plans by Müller, with new precast concrete elements with a facade cladding made of fiber cement panels in natural brown tones being installed instead of the previous metal and blue facades, and all windows were also replaced. In addition, the safety requirements, which have increased since the school was built, were met by adding an additional, external staircase. The renovation of the facade was completed in April 2009, the total cost was 2.9 million euros. A renovation of the gym facade is to follow. May 2010 the renovation of the school was completed. The costs amounted to 3.62 million euros.

building
The school is a rectangular building with four floors in the western part, otherwise three floors with 25 classrooms and 15 specialist rooms. To the north, a covered passage leads to the 21 × 45 meter gym. To the east of the gym there is a separate bungalow as a caretaker's apartment, to the west of the school building are sports and green areas.
The building was erected with a wide-span support system according to a variable system . This system allows non-load-bearing partitions and lightweight construction walls to be removed or used as required, these walls being made up of double-shell plasterboard assembly walls. This allows rooms to be enlarged or reduced as required. The building was originally clad with metal and blue elements, which were replaced in 2008/09 with better-insulated precast concrete elements in natural brown.
At first, attempts were made to counter the poor energy balance of the building with remote-controlled heating so as not to unnecessarily heat unused classrooms, which in 1982 also achieved energy savings of around 30%. Energy aspects also played an important role in the extensive renovation and redesign of the building between 2002 and 2008.
Educational offer
Working groups
The Böckinger Kleist School offers various working groups. Noteworthy is the Environment Working Group , which in 1990 won the employers' association's second environmental award for pupils. The working group dealt with the topics “Environment in the immediate vicinity” and “Reducing pollutant emissions from cars using the example of Frankenbach”. In 1992 the working group was awarded another prize.
There are also two working groups for gifted students at the school. Because of these two working groups, the school was the only one in the Heilbronn school district that was allowed to take part in a trial program run by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture and Sport.
For several years now, the school has been participating in the Heilbronner Voice ZiSch - Newspaper in the school project , in which pupils create editorial contributions for the local daily newspaper. The content of the contributions was about the life of the pupils, topics included career aspirations to be a veterinarian, everyday life in day-care centers, exclusion and peer pressure, contraception, suicides among young people, anorexia, etc.
The HvK is one of the first schools to take part in the Kurs21 learning partnership, with the Kaufland company helping the school with the vocational orientation and preparation of the students for training as part of the creation of a new, multi-level system for vocational orientation .
In 2003 the HvK took part in a pilot project with the Academy for Information and Management and the Stuttgart added-value agency in the area of “social learning”. In 2006, Academy Managing Director Harald Augenstein awarded the HvK a certificate for their participation in the mentoring project “Students help students”.
In 2007 the school was the only secondary school in Heilbronn to have a cafeteria, in which lunch is served on two long school days.
In 2007 the Heinrich-Kleist-Realschule was mentioned in the newspaper Die Zeit , when its example was used to report on the topic-oriented project Social Commitment , in which a total of 30,000 students from 480 Realschulen in Baden-Württemberg take part.
On June 16, 2008 the school was awarded “BoriS - Berufswahl-SIEGEL Baden-Württemberg” because it helped its students to choose a profession. The projects on career choice orientation, the cooperation with companies and the information about the BoriS project were recognized.
The building received the small Hugo Häring Prize .
Sports
The school has been involved in school sports for a long time , with the girls and young women’s soccer team being particularly noteworthy in the recent past, which graduated from the 1997 and 1999 district soccer team with youth training for the Olympics . In 2002 the girls' soccer team from the Kleist School also won first prize at the indoor school authority championships.
