history

North side of the building

The school was founded on May 22, 1919, initially as a middle school in the then independent community of Gerthe , which was supposed to prepare for attending secondary school . In 1922 the expansion to the rectorate school was approved, in 1926 the expansion to the upper secondary school . From 1929 girls were also taught.

From 1933 onwards, people were brought up in the National Socialist spirit, which was also reflected in the choice of headmasters. From 1938 on, Heinrich Hüper became headmaster, who had been the NSDAP's local group leader in Gerthe since 1932 and fled to Schleswig-Holstein a few weeks before the end of the war . In 1943, teaching was completely discontinued and the pupils were sent to Lower Silesia and Pomerania as part of the children's area .

In 1946, school operations could be resumed with initially 152 students. Schoolgirls were sent to Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule. In 1950 the school became a mathematics and science high school. In 1970 co-education was reintroduced. The new building was occupied in 1977. The Anne Frank Realschule is also located in the building complex . From 2020 the building will be demolished and rebuilt. In 2025 it should be moved into new.
