The Theodor-Körner-Schule is a municipal high school in Bochum . Over 1000 students are taught by 80 teachers at the school (as of 2011). It is located with the Rupert-Neudeck-Schule in the school center southwest in Dahlhausen .

The school was founded on April 21, 1920 as a boys' high school . In 1937 it was named after the writer Carl Theodor Körner (1791-1813) in Theodor-Körner-Schule by decision of the Bochum City Council .

In order to protect the pupils from the bombs in World War II , the pupils were evacuated to Schönlanke in East Prussia in 1943 as part of the Kinderland deportation . In 1946 classes could be resumed. School meals , school fees and shift lessons shaped school life.

From 1961 to 1964 there was a large extension and expansion with an assembly hall complex including a teaching pool, which has since been closed. A triple gym was built in the 1970s . Another extension followed in 1983, which was opened in 1984. The oldest part of the school center dates from 1902. Since 2013, the rooms of the former teaching swimming pool have been converted into a cafeteria for the entire school center.

The language range today includes English from grade 5, Latin or French from grade 6, French or Spanish from grade 8 and French or Spanish in the upper level . In the upper level there is a cooperation with the Matthias Claudius School . The school puts on several in-house plays every year. There has been a cooperation with the Bochum-Dahlhausen Railway Museum since the 2010/11 school year .

There is a student exchange program with Issy-les-Moulineaux .

The school has a support association , the association of former students and friends and sponsors of the Theodor-Körner-Schule in Bochum-Dahlhausen eV , which was founded in 1949.

Since 2007 the TKS has been the only school in Bochum to be awarded the NRW seal of approval for "individual support".
