Lessing school

The Lessing School in Bochum is a grammar school with currently almost 1000 (highest level in 1981: around 1300) students, making it the largest school in the Langendreer district . The school was founded in 1948 on the site of a private boys' school founded in 1890, which was the first secondary school in Langendreer.

History until the end of the Second World War

The original boys' school was a public church school , which means they had only the vintages Sexta to Obertertia (5th to 9th grade) who were preparing to visit the secondary school. The indebted private school, for which the premises of a parish were still used, became the property of the Langendreer community in 1896. It received its own building in 1900 on the site of the school area that is still used today. With the move, the conversion to a secondary school and in 1909 to a grammar school could already be successfully applied for (affiliation of a Realprogymnasium). Due to the increasing number of students, the original building was expanded in 1925. The reform school Bochum Langendreer in 1937 after the Reich President Paul von Hindenburg in Hindenburg School renamed.

Rebuilding

The Hindenburg School was destroyed by air raids in 1945. The company was inactive until the new construction and reopening in 1948, when the grammar school received its current name with Gotthold Ephraim Lessing as the new namesake . In 1951, at the request of the parents' representatives, female pupils were also admitted to co-education . In the years 1956 to 1960, the so-called old building with auditorium and teaching pool was completed. From 1977 to 1980 the new building was constructed, to which a branch of the city library was attached. In August 1990 the school celebrated its centenary (officially: "100 Years of Higher School in Langendreer").

Projects

The association of former students of the Langendreer Oberschule has existed since 1949, and the sponsorship association at the Lessing School since 1972 . School newspapers were u. a.
