history

The humanistically designed grammar school on the Ostring had to give way to the new building of the Bochum regional court . The Albert Einstein School, which is bilingual in English, was polluted by pollutants in the building. One solution was to merge both schools in a new building at the Albert Einstein School in Wiemelhausen near the Geological Garden . In August 2010, the students first moved into the old building of the Erich Kästner School .

The new building was completed at the end of 2012. In October 2012 the first day of school took place in the new building. According to the original planning, a new name for the school should be considered after moving into the new building. It stayed with the working title.

The development company Ruhr-Bochum mbH carried out the competition in the years 2008/09, from which the office Hascher + Jehle Planungsgesellschaft mbH from Berlin emerged as the winner. It was commissioned to plan the building. The design is a building with a gross floor area of approx. 14,000 m² and a gross volume of around 72,000 m³. The costs for this amounted to approx. 31.6 million euros.

For the school parking lot, 56 trees protected by the tree protection statutes and 50 so-called trees that are not worthy of protection, such as birch trees , are to be felled. To compensate for this, the draft provides for 104 saplings on the school property to replace the trees that are up to 60 years old.
