Heinrich Andreas Pröhle

Heinrich Andreas Pröhle , also: Heinrich Pröhle (born February 3, 1797 in Gunsleben , † April 19, 1875 in Hornhausen ) was a German writer and Protestant theologian.

Life

Pröhle was born as the son of the teacher and cantor Johann Heinrich Christian Pröhle . From 1809 he attended the cathedral school in Halberstadt . In 1815 he volunteered for the war of liberation against the Napoleonic troops and left school. 1816 began studying theology at the University of Halle (Saale) . During his studies in 1816 he became a member of the Teutonia Halle fraternity .

In 1819 he took up his first pastorate in the Harz region in Molmerswende . In 1821 he became pastor at the St. Peter Church in Satuelle . Here he married Amelie Hobohm , with whom he had five children. In 1822 his son Heinrich Christoph Ferdinand Pröhle , who later became known as a folklorist and writer, was born. In 1828 he was elected pastor in the parish of Roklum . From 1835 he was pastor in Hornhausen for over 40 years.

He wrote many religious and patriotic writings as well as poems and thus gained fame. In 1855 he presented the first extensive biography of the gymnastics father Friedrich Ludwig Jahn , whom he knew personally. In 1865 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Halle (Saale).
