Heinrich Bekelin
Heinrich Bekelin († 1454 or later) was the university secretary , professor and rector of the University of Rostock .
Life
Heinrich Bekelin appears when the University of Rostock is founded in 1419 as its notary, i.e. university secretary, so that Krause probably rightly suspects in the ADB that the first entries in the Rostock register could be from his hand. He came from a bourgeois family in Rostock, initially attributed to the Beselin family , but after Friedrich Crull found a medieval coat of arms grave slab of a Bekelin with the coat of arms of the Baggel Rostock council family in Wismar , it was questioned again. Bekelin was a master of arts and a doctorate in both rights and theology. It is not known whether the focus of his work was now legal or theological. He became rector of the university for the first time in 1432 and held this office ten times, including during the time of the ban and the move to Greifswald .
He was also pastor of the Marienkirche in Rostock , which explains his personal interest in the university's return to Rostock. He had fortune which enabled him to bequeath a larger foundation to the Marienkirche.
