Life

After an apprenticeship as a painter , Bock also worked as a caretaker . On November 12, 1929, he was elected mayor of the SPD in Hanover for the first time (city councilor). On June 12, 1933, Bock was re-elected to the mayor council. On June 28, his mandate was withdrawn by the National Socialists. He was arrested the same year but soon released.

Bock belonged to the resistance group around the trade unionist Albin Karl , who before 1933 had been second chairman of the factory workers ' association. After the assassination attempt on July 20, 1944 , Bock was arrested again as part of the " Operation Grid ", initially taken to the Ahlem police substitute prison and transferred to Neuengamme concentration camp at the end of August 1944 . When the concentration camp was cleared at the end of April 1945, Bock and thousands of other prisoners had to go to the Bay of Lübeck , where they were put on ships. When the Cap Arcona sank , Bock was killed.
