Heinrich Ehler

The Type 178 is an open-top -Container- feeder vessel type of Sietas in Neuenfelde .

history

The ship type was ordered by various shipping companies, initially twelve orders. Due to the global financial crisis in 2008, half of the orders were canceled, so that Sietas only produced six units. The ships are mainly used on European feeder trips, and they are among the largest units of their kind in the Kiel Canal and in the Baltic Sea.

The model ship of the series is the Heinrich Ehler with hull number 1261. It was commissioned by the Heinrich Ehler shipping company from Otterndorf, christened by Alexander Ehler on August 15, 2008 and delivered on the same day. The last ship in the series is the Elysee , commissioned by the Dutch JR Shipping Group , which was delivered on November 6, 2009.

technology

The Type 178 was intended as the successor to the Type 168 in feeder traffic and represents a further development of the Type 171, of which Sietas had only built one for the Canadian shipping company Oceanex in 2005. It is considered a Baltic Max Feeder (also called Ostseeemax within the shipyard). In terms of dimensions, the development of the ships aimed at the largest type of feeder ship that could be used economically in the Baltic Sea. The Kiel Canal allows a maximum permissible draft of 9.30 meters. In addition, three out of four of the open-box are containers -Laderäume of the open-top container ship with variable storage space and flexible cell guides equipped. All cargo holds are equipped for the transport of dangerous goods containers. The tank ceiling is reinforced for stowing heavy goods . In addition, the ship is set up for the transport of extra-long and extra-wide containers of the most common special dimensions.

The ships of the series are powered by a MAN B&W 8L58 / 64 diesel engine that acts on a controllable pitch propeller , the docking and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster with 900 kW and a stern thruster with 750 kW.

The ice-reinforced hulls were assembled in a sectional construction.
