Heinrich Funk (painter)
Heinrich Funk (born December 12, 1807 in Herford , † November 22, 1877 in Stuttgart ) was a German landscape painter from the Düsseldorf School .
Life
Funk was the son of a painter who called himself “painter” and gave private lessons in drawing. He could only support his family with hardship. His father also gave his son Heinrich his first painting lessons. From 1829 Funk attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where he devoted himself to landscape painting under Carl Friedrich Lessing and Wilhelm Schirmer . From 1831 he exhibited in Düsseldorf, copies of his motif Der Klosterhof acquired in 1832 by the Düsseldorf government councilor Heinrich Ferdinand Philipp von Sybel and Prince Friedrich of Prussia . In 1836 he moved to Frankfurt am Main . In 1854, Funk took over a professorship for landscape painting at the Royal Art School in Stuttgart as the successor to Gottlob Friedrich Steinkopf . Here he worked as a popular teacher until increasing sickness forced him to resign in the fall of 1876. Funk's pupils included the painters Max Bach , Anton Braith , Gustav Paul Closs (1840–1870), Gustav Conz and Adele Esinger .
