Heinrich Gottfried Reichard

Heinrich Gottfried Reichard (born June 22, 1742 in Schleiz ; † May 22, 1801 in Grimma ) was a German teacher, philologist, cantor and composer.

Life

Heinrich Gottfried Reichard was the son of the city and district judge, councilor and bailiff and Schleizer court music director Johann Georg Reichard (1710–1782) and Christine Friederike born. Chef from Schleiz. He attended school in Schleiz and studied theology and philology at Leipzig University from 1761 . His teacher in Latin here was Johann August Ernesti . In 1765 he graduated from the Philosophical Faculty with a master's degree , and in 1766 he completed his habilitation on the subject of De arte bene scribendi origine et fatis usque ad AC 1453 .

In 1769 Reichard was appointed cantor and quartus at the Grimma Princely School , and in 1782 he was appointed Tertius here. In 1789 he was appointed vice principal.

Reichard became known through various writings and especially his work as a translator from and into Latin. Among other things, he translated the 'History of the Seven Years War in Germany' by Johann Wilhelm von Archenholz into Latin, for which he was awarded a gold commemorative medal by Duke Ferdinand von Braunschweig.

Reichard was born in 1771 with Friederike Wilhelmine. Thallwitz married and had a son Karl Gottfried (1779–1844).
