Heinrich Gottlob Gräve

Heinrich Gottlob Gräve (born February 7, 1772 in Budissin , Markgraftum Oberlausitz , † April 30, 1847 in Kamenz ) was a German lawyer , historian and folklorist .

Life

The son of the Bautzner master tailor Johann Gottfried Gräve received a humanistic education in his hometown and studied law in Leipzig from 1790 to 1797 . After that, from 1800 he was senior attorney in Bautzen and later councilor and senator in Kamenz.

Gräve joined the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences in 1821 or 1822 . He developed an interest in regional history and folklore, which was reflected in numerous publications during the last three decades of his life. His folkloric texts were often based on sources whose language he reproduced authentically.
