Heinrich Groß (theologian)

Johannes Heinrich Groß (born September 13, 1916 in Bonn ; † April 30, 2008 in Regensburg ) was a German Catholic theologian and professor of exegesis of the Old Testament at the University of Regensburg .

Life

Because of the Second World War, Johannes Heinrich Groß had to interrupt the study of theology that had begun in 1937 at the Catholic Theological Faculty in Trier . After resuming and completing his studies, he was ordained a priest in 1947. In 1951 he was at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn to Dr. theol. PhD. This was followed by in-depth studies in biblical studies at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and in 1955 the habilitation at the Catholic-Theological Faculty in Trier. Johannes Heinrich Groß was then professor for introductory biblical studies in Trier. In 1968 he was appointed Professor of Exegesis of the Old Testament at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the newly founded University of Regensburg , where he worked until his retirement in 1983.
