Heinrich Löffler (Germanist)

Heinrich Löffler (born November 19, 1938 in Engen ) is a Swiss linguist and professor emeritus for German philology at the University of Basel .

Life

After graduating from high school in ancient languages at Heinrich-Suso-Gymnasium Konstanz , Löffler studied German, Latin and philosophy at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau and Kiel . State examination and doctorate followed in 1965 in Freiburg with the dissertation Die Weilerorte in Oberschwaben. A name-based examination . He was then an assistant at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau from 1966 to 1970 and an academic councilor from 1970 to 1975 . In 1974 he completed his habilitation with a partial publication of the Historical Southwest German Language Atlas in Freiburg. In 2005 he received Swiss citizenship .

From 1975 to 2004 Löffler was a full professor for German Philology at the University of Basel. From 1985 to 1987 he was dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and History; From 1989 to 2001 he was head of the " Communication and Media Studies " course. From 1988 to 2008 Löffler was President of the Executive Committee of the Stiftung Kabelnetz Basel (sponsor of the regional television station Telebasel ) and from 1992 to 1998 a member of the Board of Trustees at the Institute for German Language (IDS) in Mannheim. Löffler was President of the Scientific Advisory Board at IDS from 1998 to 2002 and a member of the Senate Evaluation Committee of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Scientific Community from 2002 to 2006.
