Heinrich Maurer (General Superintendent)

Heinrich Maurer (born October 31, 1834 in Bad Schwalbach , † January 22, 1918 in Wiesbaden ) was a German Protestant clergyman. He worked from 1897 to 1913 as general superintendent of the consistorial district of Wiesbaden .

Maurer, son of a teacher, grew up in Wiesbaden. From 1854 he studied Protestant theology at the universities of Heidelberg and Jena. During his studies in Jena he became a member of the Arminia fraternity in the castle cellar in the winter semester of 1855/56 . From 1857 to 1858 he attended the theological seminary in Friedberg. He received his first parish office in Hochheim am Main in 1859 . In 1863 he took over a pastor's position in Fleisbach , but the next year he moved to neighboring Herborn , first as the second pastor in Herborn, and in 1879 as the first pastor and dean of the Herborn-Dillenburg dean 's office. From 1865 onwards he was also a teacher at the preacher's seminary in Herborn . From 1891 he also served as President of the District Synod of the Consistorial District of Wiesbaden (largely identical to the Duchy of Nassau annexed by Prussia in 1866 ). In 1897 he was appointed general superintendent of this consistorial district and held office until his retirement in 1913.

Maurer, who had already become chairman of the association for the care of Christian community life in Herborn, promoted the community movement in Nassau. In 1890 he was awarded an honorary theological doctorate by the University of Marburg .
