Heinrich Reese (architect)

Hans Heinrich Wilhelm Reese (born October 7, 1843 in Kiel ; † April 26, 1919 in Basel ) was a German (Kiel was still part of the Danish state in 1842), and from 1882 a Swiss architect and politician (independent).

Henry Reese attended by a carpenter teaching the Baugewerkschule in Holzminden, Brunswick and Lüneburg. After long journeys, he enrolled at the Karlsruhe Polytechnic in 1865 . From 1866 to 1870 he worked for Theodor Geiger in Zurich and then for a general contractor in Vienna on planning for the Hungarian Western Railway and on a project for the Vienna Palace of Justice.

From 1874 Reese was an assistant to the cantonal building inspector in Basel, and in 1875 he became a building inspector himself. In 1882 he became a citizen of Basel . From 1882 to 1894 Reese was the canton master builder in Basel . From 1894 to 1907 he was a non-party Government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt and Head of Baudepartementes. In the year 1900/1901 he was President of the Government Council.

Reese shaped the Basel city expansion from 1880 and planned numerous public buildings. In 1890 the construction of the Basel industrial museum began and in 1892 the building was occupied. This was planned by Reese and Friedrich Walser .

In 1877 he married Victoria Karolina Pernaux.
