Heinrich Schwabe (born October 30 or 31, 1847 in Wiesbaden , † December 23, 1924 in Nuremberg; full name: Georg Heinrich Joseph Schwabe ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Heinrich Schwabe studied from 1859 at the Nuremberg School of Applied Arts as a student of August von Kreling , Wilhelm Düll and Desiderius Lenz .

He then worked as an assistant in August von Kreling's private studio. After a three-month stay in Rome in 1869, he settled as a sculptor in Munich . In 1875 he went on study trips to Italy, France, Switzerland and Austria and was then appointed - before the end of the year - through August von Kreling's mediation as a professor of sculpture at the Nuremberg School of Applied Arts, where he taught until 1907. After that he continued to work as a freelancer. He died in 1924 and was buried in the Johannisfriedhof in Nuremberg (grave no. 778).

Schwabe's works include humorous cupids and the flower game He loves me ; During his time in Munich, he created many smaller decorative statuettes , which he successfully sold. Towards the end of the 1870s he created over two dozen cupids, which were made by the Royal Saxon Porcelain Manufactory Meissen . After retiring from teaching, he mainly dealt with monumental sculpture.

  • 1887/1890: Ludwig Railway Monument in Nuremberg (moved and changed several times)
  • 1896: Plastic jewelry for the building of the Landesgewerbeanstalt in Nuremberg, Gewerbemuseumsplatz
  • 1897: Memorial to Kaiser Wilhelm I in Erlangen , Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz (unveiled on July 25, 1897; bronze parts dismantled and melted down in 1942, the rest broken off in 1946)
  • 1898: Bust of Karl Grillenberger for his tomb in the Nuremberg West Cemetery
