Heinrich Strasser (born October 26, 1948 ) is a former Austrian football player . The defender took part in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina.
Career
Heinrich Strasser made his first appearances as a defender in the National League for SC Wacker Vienna in the 1966/67 season , but had to accept relegation with the club. In 1968 he went to FC Admira in the south of the city, where he was able to establish himself in defense from the start. On April 23, 1969, he also made his debut in the Austrian national team against Israel and subsequently came under Leopold Šťastný to two more missions.
After joining his club, SC Wacker, Heinrich Strasser managed to qualify for the first time with FC Admira / Wacker for the 1973/74 UEFA Cup , where even Inter Milan was eliminated. After this season he celebrated his return to the national team against Brazil on May 1, 1974 and established himself as a regular player for the following five years, later mostly alternating in his position with the VÖESTler Gerhard Breitenberger .
The highlight of Heinrich Strasser's team career was the successful qualification for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, where Austria finished 7th. He himself took part in the legendary 3-2 victory in Cordoba over the then world champions Germany . If he hadn't played a stupid back pass in the previous game against Italy, which was more of a template for Paolo Rossi , who did not miss the chance and scored the 1-0 winning goal for the Italians, then the Austrians would be, who in retrospect were a draw would have been enough to advance to the semi-finals.
After the end of his team career, he moved in 1979 from FC Admira / Wacker to the smaller Vienna in 1979 , but did not succeed in staying up. In the 1st division, the defender was still to be seen in 1982/83 for 1. Simmeringer SC and in 1984/85 again for Vienna, with whom he had been promoted a year earlier.
He later devoted himself to his job as a bank clerk.
Trainer
On March 23, 2009, Heinrich Strasser took over the role of co-trainer alongside Hans Krankl at the Upper Austrian Bundesliga club LASK Linz . Strasser's contract, like that of Hans Krankl, was not extended after the end of the 2008/09 season.
Since September 17th, 2012 he has been the coach of the Lower Austrian regional league club USC Perchtoldsdorf, but has since been replaced by Andreas Babicky .
