Heinrich Thurnes
Heinrich Thurnes (born June 1, 1833 in Pradl , † August 11, 1865 in Vienna ) was an Austrian portrait painter .
Born as the son of the day laborer Johann Thurnes and Marianne geb. Kerber, he was appointed a locksmith . Financed by private donations from a rich farmer, he studied from November 16, 1850 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Wilhelm von Kaulbach and attended aesthetic lectures by the philosopher Moriz Carrière .
After his return to Innsbruck in 1856 he worked as a portraitist and showed his portraits in 1856 and 1857 in the Tyrolean State Museum " Ferdinandeum ".
During the Sardinian War , he visited the Legnago Fortress in 1859 , where he portrayed several Austrian generals. That brought him many more jobs.
Thurnes moved to Vienna, where he became known as a portraitist of high-ranking personalities. He showed his works at the monthly exhibitions of the Austrian Art Association.
He died at the age of 32.
