Heinrich de Fries

Heinrich de Fries (born November 30, 1887 in Berlin , † August 15, 1938 in Werder an der Havel ) was a German architecture critic and university lecturer for architecture and urban planning at the Düsseldorf Art Academy .

He studied at the Technical University of Hanover , then at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf, at the Technical University of Charlottenburg and at the University of Bonn . After completing his studies, he worked in Peter Behrens ' office from 1916 to 1918 . In 1919, after the death of Theodor Goecke , he took over the editing of the magazine Der Städtebau , which was published by the Free Academy of Urban Development .

In 1929, the design he made together with Emil Fahrenkamp won first prize in a competition for an extension of the Reichstag building in Berlin; due to the global economic crisis , this draft was not implemented. One of his works is the Reichsheimstätten settlement “Unter den Eichen” in Düsseldorf-Gerresheim from 1930, which he designed together with Gustav August Munzer .
