Heinrich von Geismar

Heinrich von Geismar († October 3, 1431 in Hamburg ) was a German theologian and university professor.

Life

Heinrich von Geismar came from Lübeck or Göttingen ( Geismar is now a district of Göttingen.) In any case, he was related to families from Göttingen, Hamburg and Lübeck. In 1388 he received his bachelor's degree at the University of Prague , and in 1390 he received his master's degree there. In 1408 he was the envoy of the Old Lübeck Council in Göttingen, who had been expelled from the city. He was at the University of Erfurt Dr. doctorate and worked there as professor of theology. On November 12, 1419 he is mentioned as a canon and lector primarius at the Hamburg Cathedral of Mary , where he also preached in Middle Low German. In 1419 he also worked briefly as a university lecturer in the founding of the University of Rostock , although he was actually bound to Hamburg because of his canon position. He was friends with the scholars Heinrich Toke , Borchard Plotze and Bernhard Bodeker ; the latter still made use of the library of Geismar's book friend in Rostock in 1431. Heinrich von Geismar's successor as lecturer at Hamburg Cathedral was the Rostock theologian Johannes Holt .
